Save Facebook videos in their real best quality

Paste a link to any public video, Reel or live replay. FB Media Tools finds every quality Facebook stores, including the 1080p streams most downloaders skip, and merges them on your device.

Works with Reels, videos, live replays, photos, group posts, and fb.watch or share links

How it works

Three steps, no app, no account

  1. Copy the link

On the video tap Share → Copy link. Any form works: facebook.com/…/videos/…, /reel/, fb.watch, /share/v/, mobile m.facebook.com.

  2. Paste and pick a quality

We read the post and list every rendition: 1080p (and higher when it exists), HD 720p, SD, audio, cover image and captions, with real sizes.

  3. Save it

Your browser downloads straight from Facebook’s servers and, for top quality, joins video and audio itself. On iPhone and Android you can send it to Photos.

Why the quality is different

Facebook hides its best quality in two pieces

When you watch a video, Facebook streams the picture and the sound as separate files (DASH streaming). The single ready-made file that most downloaders grab is usually capped at 720p. The 1080p, and on some uploads 1440p, version only exists as a video-only stream plus an audio-only stream.

FB Media Tools lists those streams and merges them into one normal MP4 inside your browser. There is no server queue and no “rendering…” wait. A 40-second 1080p clip took about a tenth of a second to merge in our tests once downloaded.

Newer uploads are often stored in AV1, an efficient codec that some older phones, WhatsApp and editing apps cannot open. Tick Convert to H.264 and your device re-encodes the file so it plays everywhere. See why some Facebook downloads won’t play.

Your files never touch our servers

Our server does one thing: it reads the public Facebook page you link to and tells your browser where the media lives. The video itself travels from Facebook’s CDN straight to your device, and merging, MP3 conversion and editing all happen locally. We keep no copies, no download history and no accounts. That is also why FB Media Tools stays fast when it’s busy: your device does the work.

FAQ

Questions & answers

Is this Facebook video downloader free?

Yes. There is no sign-up, watermark or daily limit for normal use. We may show a small, clearly labelled ad in the future to cover hosting; it will never sit between you and the download button.

Why do other sites only give me 720p?

Facebook only provides a ready-made file in HD (usually 720p) and SD. Higher resolutions are delivered as separate video and audio streams that must be merged. FB Media Tools merges them in your browser, so you get the 1080p (or higher) version when the uploader provided one.

Can I download Facebook Reels and live videos?

Yes. Reels use the same pipeline, see the Reels downloader. Live broadcasts can be saved once they have ended and Facebook has published the replay; while a broadcast is still running there is no complete file to download. See how to download a Facebook Live video.

Where do downloaded files go on iPhone or Android?

Files go to your browser’s Downloads (on iPhone: the Files app → Downloads). After a download finishes, tap Save to Photos / Share to put a video straight into your camera roll. Step-by-step: iPhone, Android.

The video downloaded but won’t play. What now?

It is probably encoded in AV1 or VP9. Download it again with Convert to H.264 ticked, or pick the HD instant file, which is always H.264. More detail in this guide.

Does it work with private videos and groups?

Public posts work with a link. For a video that only you can see (a private group, friends-only post, or a Story), use Private video mode: you copy the page source from your own browser and FB Media Tools reads it on your device. Your page source is never uploaded.

Is it legal to download Facebook videos?

Saving a video for personal, offline viewing is treated differently from republishing it. Re-uploading someone else’s video can infringe their copyright and Facebook’s Terms. Download your own content, content you have permission to use, or content with a licence that allows it.

How long do the links work?

Facebook signs its media links and they expire, typically within hours to a few days. If a download says the link expired, simply paste the Facebook link again.
