Get a Facebook video’s thumbnail, or any frame you like
Paste a video or Reel link. Save the cover image Facebook shows before playback, or scrub to any moment and capture a full-resolution still.
- Open the video in your browser while logged in (it must play for you).
- Computer: press Ctrl+U (Mac: ⌥+⌘+U). Android Chrome: add
view-source:before the address. - Select all (Ctrl+A), copy, and paste it below.
Works with Reels, videos, live replays, photos, group posts, and fb.watch or share links
Two ways to get a still
Cover image: the thumbnail (poster) chosen by the uploader or by Facebook. We fetch the largest version and show its pixel size before you save.
Frame grab: play the preview, pause where you want, and press Grab frame. We capture that exact moment from the HD file at its native resolution as a lossless PNG, sharper than a screenshot and without player controls in the way.
Need the frame in a specific size, like a Reels cover or a Page cover? Open the result in the cover photo maker to crop it to Facebook’s exact dimensions.
Good to know
- Reel covers are vertical (9:16). Grid views crop them to 4:5 or 1:1, which you can check in the safe-zone checker.
- Frame grabs use the HD file, typically 720p. Grab from the best quality by downloading the 1080p video and pausing it in your player.
- Respect the creator’s rights when reusing thumbnails.
Questions & answers
What resolution is a Facebook video thumbnail?
It varies by upload. Landscape covers are commonly served up to 1920×1080 (often scaled to 960 px wide), vertical Reel covers up to 1080×1920. We show the exact size after you paste the link.
Only download videos you own, that are licensed for reuse, or that you have the creator’s permission to save. Respect copyright and Facebook’s Terms. FB Media Tools does not host any content; files come directly from Facebook’s servers to your device.
